Full Description:
Recently Completed..........'Chapel in the Clouds' a masterpiece of work, the pinnacle of craftsmanship, built single handedly by this skilled owner.
This is one of the most incredible properties I have ever seen in my 23 years living here.
This is an Extraordinary Private Reserve in terms of biological richness and diversity, totaling nearly 1000 acres adjacent and contiguous to the La Amistad Inter-frontier National Park. It is completely off-grid, including a remote 260 foot (80 meter) free falling Waterfall which joins with 100’s of smaller waterfalls to provide an abundance of natural spring water. The electricity to the 9 hand crafted buildings is provided by a simple pelton wheel/generator system.
The Property:
Southern Costa Rica……….. The 15 mile trek with a 4x4 will take 2.5 hrs from the inter-american highway. The nearest town is called Buenas Aires. The nearest larger town is San Isidro located one hour from Buenas Aires. The altitude is 5000 feet above sea level and is comprised of 3 separate surveys for a total of 943.5 Acres. The property is situated inside an Indian reserve, and has been granted total right of private ownership by the Indian tribal counsel. There are over 100 waterfalls on the property ranging from 260 feet of free fall to smaller falls in the 3 foot range.
There is a total of nine buildings or constructions.
Red Cedar is some of the finest lumber in the world, all constructions on site were built using this fine wood, where did it come from and how did it get here? The incredible story alone is an attribute to this indescribable Mountain Retreat. There cannot be anything like this is all of Costa Rica. The Constructions are as unique as the land they stand on. All hand crafted by one unique individual…the effort and dream of one man alone, every beam and board was milled on the property with precision and loving care. In order to turn out such fine handicraft generators were purchased and set up, a portable mill band saw style was brought in and assembled for cutting lengths of lumber that would span 12 feet at in length. The Red Cedar was purchased in Canada and shipped about 1000 miles to the coast where it was loaded in two 40 foot containers and shipped to Costa Rica. Costa Rica Customs officials were in shock and unprepared and caught completely off-guard. Usually lumber was shipped out of Costa Rica, not imported in…………….after a couple weeks the containers finally cleared customs and the containers were ready to be transported 10 hours around San Jose, and over the Cerro del Muerte………….the mountain of death, to arrive to the yard where the lumber would be off loaded and piled on to six, 4x4 pick-up trucks for a total of 60 loads or trips back and forth, the round trip alone was 5 hours each, that is if the trucks didn’t get stuck in the mud or have any mishaps. The Pick-ups each took one load a day, for 10 days, again all part of one man’s dream. The cost alone was over $72,000, just to purchase, ship, and truck this fine lumber to the property. The hard work was about to begin.
To be continued..............more descriptions to follow of constructions
