Banana Company Housing, American Zone Best Neighborhood in Golfito
You’d have to understand the layout of Golfito, I’ll try to recap here what I’ve posted in other listings for the American Zone.
Golfito was the Banana Company Empire, established in the ‘40’s, homes were also built at this time.
It’s the best neighborhood in Golfito and was the white-collar neighborhood built especially for the executives. For this reason, the airstrip is nearby, only about 300 mts away. There was a 9-hole, 3-par golf course surrounding the airstrip, country club, swimming pool, tennis courts etc. Grand times!
Currently this is the only neighborhood in Golfito with space around the homes, the lots are generally ¼ of an acre, in general there were a couple of home styles, a 2 bedroom and a 3 bedroom, a few even larger. Personally, I prefer the larger 3-bedroom homes, they are spacious and more to N. American standards.
This home is large, with wooden floors throughout, classic in style and feel. Very typical of the era in which they were built. The Banana Company homes always reminded me of the Key West style. The large, covered deck off the rear of the house is a bonus. It’s a wonderful outdoor space, and not all the homes have this feature, I think early mornings or later evenings when it’s cooler would be most enjoyable, hammock and BBQ ready.
Two of the bedrooms share a bathroom, also typical of these homes, the third or ‘master’ bedroom has a private bathroom, large also including a Jacuzzi. The home has ‘good bones’ and could be quite spectacular once renovated, it could be enjoyed as is but would be top of the line….remodeled.
The first floor has easy access to the apartments, a larger two bedroom and a smaller one bedroom. Both are rented full time, but a better use for maximum income potential would be the ever so popular Airbnb, The American Zone could use more Airbnb’s.
A large covered 3 car parking area for cars/toys and even enough room for a trailered boat. Our bay of Golfito and our Gulf, the Golfo Dulce are one of the main attractions in the area. The Gulf is incredible, Whales, Dolphins and great for exploring.
Golfo Dulce and the Surrounding Area
The Golfo Dulce is considered a tropical fjord with an average annual temperature of 86 degrees Fahrenheit, an extremely rare biome. The area has seventeen total protected reserves which amount to three percent of Costa Rica's land area. The area contains 50% of the flora and fauna of Costa Rica, and receives five to six meters of rain per year. The ecosystem has two parts: a marine ecosystem and a terrestrial ecosystem. The Golfo Dulce has several species of whales that visit the area and use it as a breeding ground and nursery for their respective calves.

The home is within walking distance (only 1km) to the New Marina, it’s quite exciting, they are currently leasing space for about 20 shops and it will feature a ‘village’ of commercial shops open to the public. Cafes, Restaurants’ Ice Cream parlor etc. Even an outdoor kiosk for music.
