This hand built, cozy, warm feeling, wooden home is all may ever need. Perhaps you’ve retired and ready to create a new life in Costa Rica. There is plenty to do here and adding your own personal touches and making improvements can keep the creative juices flowing for years to come.
We’ve really enjoyed our visits to the area, the people we’ve met are so hospitable, unpretentious, the rest of the world just drops away and you feel at home. I think this property ‘checked all the right boxes too’
To begin with, being up near the largest ‘International Park’ in Costa Rica is unique in itself, and less then 2 kms to the park entrance is special. I’ve not yet visited Amistad but its on my list, as well as the hot springs up in this area. We noticed several different hot springs; it looks like a neat area to explore. You could ride a horse up here for hours and there is no one around to give you a traffic ticket if you are not wearing a helmet when on your motorcycle. (most locals don’t wear a helmet on these back roads, perfect!
The property has 2 hectares (about 5 Acres) and its mostly Forested, old growth, dense, with plenty of trees, Monkeys next to the house, that kind of thing. The house feels ‘nestled’ in the forest, see the arial photo, it alone is inviting.
The town of San Vito is the largest town nearby and just a tad over an hour. You’ll find everything needed, your preference may be to make that drive once a week, later on and from what we’ve experienced living remotely you may decide to make biweekly trips and stock up on fuel and other needed items.
Projects, it’s great to have them. This property has a couple cleared open areas as you drive in off the main dirt road (very few cars) the owner was building something with bamboo on one of the larger parcels, I think it was just a temporary ‘garage’ or parking area, just something large and under roof. It could be an ideal place to build an Airbnb rental, this area is just opening up to tourism due to the newer park entrance, do a rental search you will find there are few rentals in the area, keep it rustic, like a wooden cabin or a home, it will bound to be a winner and, will attract travelers and provide you with enough income to continue enjoying this unique lifestyle.
The altitude is about 1450 mts or 4,757 ft. Nights get chilly, the homemade 50-gal wood burning oven keeps the chill off when needed and again adds a nice touch to the atmosphere.
There are 8 solar panels, so the refrigeration, lighting and computers all are grid free. That’s a nice touch, all furnishings included too. The owners are heading back to Italy and taking a backpack………. everything stays, basically. Which for some of us is a treasure trove of goodies, bolts, screws, fine hardwood lumber here and there……..just look at the picts to see the amt. of items in the bodega and shed, all will come in handy.
That’s why the home feels good, the current owners did most of the hard work, I think you’d agree after a review of the following pictures.
The solar hot water tank will make you smile, and it’s ‘hot too’!, step off the front porch and you are in the work area, organic garden under plastic, again……….plenty to keep you busy here.!
lock stock and barrel $45k OBO
