About Golfito
Golfito – the name means ‘little gulf’, it was a port town from the ‘30’s to the early ‘80’s. It used to be the most important port in Southern Costa Rica. It was home to the United Fruit Company with its extensive banana plantations. It’s still a port town; Cruise Ships occasionally visit as well as Palm Oil tankers from different parts of the world and now we can handle 200-foot luxury yachts anchoring in our new World Class Marina. Golfito is Growing!
Local Ticos from all over the country flock to Golfito for the ‘free zone’ for shopping which has some of the best prices around and has helped to stimulate the local economy after the Banana Company Closed its doors.
If you’re on the adventurous side of life, there are popular activities such as Whale Watching, Dolphin tours, Jungle hikes, Ntl.
