Full Description:
Originally the house listed at $269,000 when first listed and it was in top shape and a family was living there. Over the years a divorce occurred, and the house is not being lived in at the present time and cosmetics are lacking. This could be a great opportunity for the right person.
Located only 4 kms from the Panamanian border. I was not familiar with homes in this sector and turning off the Interamerican Highway on a narrow dirt road was a pleasant encounter. We drove about 2 kilometers before arriving at this unexpected private compound.
Gated and Fenced for maximum privacy this 1.25 Acres (5091 sq. mts) has a 3-bedroom home, its unique and spacious. It has a wonderful open feeling, large wooden shutters, open to the elements, a lovely stream meanders behind the house and visiting monkeys can often be viewed in close proximity from the balcony off the main bedroom.
Built by an Englishman, this well-built 2 story home is about 18 years old, it was a unique find in this part of the country and it always surprises me when I discover hidden treasures such as this. I say this because I had only known the highway leading to the border town known as ‘Paso Canoas’. For those of us living in the southern part of the country a bonus is having the opportunity to shop here, goods offered at this border town are actually ‘in Panama’ but we are allowed to shop at the border and use our dollars once again. We often ‘fill-up’ as gasoline is less expensive in Panama and a better grade of gasoline as well. Here you can find a host of items from the states and the world not available in Costa Rica.
Also in the area there is a excellent college prep. high school (students must maintain a B average or they will be dismissed) so I’ve traveled the highway often, I had just never ventured off the main highway into the countryside.
This property has a particular advantage in that it is located near the Panamanian border, and foreigners living in Panama may also want to do ‘border runs’ (to update their Visa) perhaps a small B&B would be nice as its close to the border and has a bit of nature, so a visitor in the area may have the opportunity to stay close to the border’ but still enjoying the best Costa Rica has to offer, Nature!
Foreigners living in Costa Rica need to update Visas as well, an overnight stay may be appealing to many. If you are familiar with border crossings, they can be congested at times, I’ve personally stayed down on the border several times over the years but had there been an ‘option’, I would have preferred an Airbnb, my experience with them has always been pleasant.
If you are not familiar with borders you must realize that many folks living here full time are staying here with a tourist visa and must vacate the country every 180 days, this goes for Panama as well, having a comfortable B&B nearby could very well be appealing as there are none, especially of this quality.
The home is 2389 sq. ft
Water from a well and had a filtering system in the past, the house has been vacant for the past two years but family live next door, and maintenance is lacking.
