From Golfito the Ranch is about 21 kms. and from Rio Claro (not to be confused with Rio Claro de Pavones) the turn off is about 3 kms. and then about 4 kms. of dirt road.
The dirt road gets narrower and turns into a two-track dirt lane and can be a bit slick in the rainy season. A good 4-wheeled vehicle is a good idea here. The lane has a barbed wire fence across it to keep the cattle from roaming and it designates the beginning of the farm. There is a little river to cross with the 4x4 (rainy season) and then about 27 acres of African Palm to drive thru before arriving at the modest house.
After we cross the stream, the land surrounding the house and encompassing the African Palms is flat, with large pastures on either side of the house. These pastures are fenced to keep the cattle in and the stream flows behind the house and pastures. There are trees covering the surrounding hills on three sides that invite the realization that this is a big valley, Ponderosa style.
The African Palm will bring in about $2000/month after workers are paid. The harvesting is done every 15 days, so this is a working farm. One could keep cattle or horses; there is plenty of open pasture for grazing.
About 15 years ago nearly 15 acres of hardwoods called Amarillon were planted and an additional 10 acres of Teak. (the teak has been extracted now, not sure what remains) There is plenty of room for more planting or for fruit farming.
You’ll love the abundance of water here! There are several springs on the property and enough water drop for a pelton wheel as well for Hydro Electricity since the electric lines are about 3 kms away. The property is currently off-grid.
Since this is an ‘end of the road property’ you won’t be bothered by traffic. In fact, there is only one neighbor past this property. He would use the same easement, but he has no house on his land and would like to sell his property after he straightens out the legal issues, so this may be a future interest. He has an incredible Waterfall on his property and since he doesn’t live here and it is a bit of a hike, he never visits or uses the falls.
